Bottlenose dolphins are mammals, they are not fish. They are very beautiful. They can live between 40 and 50 years. They live in most of the world's oceans but they love temperate and tropical waters.
Bottlenose dolphins can be 2.8 metres long. They are big animals. The largest dolphins are orcas. Also, orcas are called “the killer whale”. Dolphins are very social animals. They don’t live alone. They usually work in teams to find food. They usually swim in groups, too. Each group has about 12 dolphins. They are excellent swimmers. They can swim between 5 and 12 kilometres per hour. They swim very fast.
Bottlenose dolphins eat all kinds of fish. They can jump high in the air. They look kind but they can be aggressive, too. They can breathe out of water because they have a blowhole in their heads. They can stay under water about 15 minutes.
Males are usually larger than females. They can weigh 454 kilograms. The brain of the dolphins is bigger than the human brain. It weighs about 1.500 grams. They can't smell but they can hear very well. They produce sounds like music. They are very funny. Also, dolphins have excellent vision. They have their own language to communicate when they are in a dangerous situation or when there is some food around.
Sometimes, humans train bottlenose dolphins to detect sea mines.
